Research and Planning-Update for today

Today I have looked at what kind of album cover I could have.I need to get the photographs of the farm off my phone to use them in the background but this is the rough idea i am looking at.I also did an Ishowyou demonstrating how I edit my photos and work on Photoshop.

Although my final album cover wont have the same background this is the rough idea.

Research and Planning-Serif fonts

Now I need to consider the type of font I can use when writing my double page spread.I looked at a few different fonts on there own and decided which looked appropriate. We looked at 10 different fonts
Cambria
Arial Narrow
Adobe Casion Pro
Times New Roman
Gill sans
Bauhaus 93
Cooper Black
Impact
Baskerville
Stencil
The ones which I think are appropriate are Cambria ,Adobe Casion Pro , Times New Roman and Baskerville. They are appropriate because they have a serif on the letters.

Research and Planning -What's left to do?

I still have quite a bit of work left to do before my music magazine and media coursework are all finished .I need to
-Complete my cover
-Complete my contents page with all images
-Complete double page spread
-Finish anything that is not complete on blogger and add anything I have left off onto my blogger page.
-Check all detail is to satisfaction

Research and Planning -Magazine update

Here is an update on the making of my magazine and media coursework. The two top screen grabs are two different versions of my front page.I like both images but will decide which one will be used when I decide which one I will use for my double page spread and the album cover I m going to make. The third image down is how I have edited an image and taken the background off.The final image here at the bottom is me having a quick look at what that particular image would look like on the double page spread,I think it looks alright but would need some cropping to the background but the long shot looks good.

Research and Planning-Magazine update

I am now working on my contents page.I want to try different colours as the background but I have to keep in mind that the remaining two colours will e used for text .
I then looked at other colour options for the background.I love the brown and blue but don't think that all green text would look good.
Im not sure if the colours I have chosen will work well together.I think it would be more effective to use black or white with two of my chosen colours.
Here I wanted to see what my cover would look like with an image similar to the one I will use for this I asked my sister to put on some of the costume and go to the one of the stables with me.I think it looks ok but the colours may definitely need changing when the real image is decided but it will depending on the lighting and backdrop.

Research and Planning -Magazine cover to date

Here is what I have got completed today,I have put guides onto the page to make sure that I do not add anything to close to the page edges.I will really be able to see what my cover will look like once I add the photos.

Research and Planning -Starting making the cover

Today I started creating my music magazine cover.I started with the text on my cover and one of the first things I came across was my magazine price.I know that my music magazine will be £4 but I also wanted to have my price in dollars.I went on Google.com and found the currency conversion today. My magazine will cost $6.

I got my barcode from Google.com.This will be the only image I get off the internet.

Next I got to adding some Artist/Band names onto the front of my magazine cover.I know that I need to use some form of blue and green but wanted to have a look at using a plain rectangle and also using one where I had created a boarder.

Reserch and Planning - My article choice

I have decided to use a story on my double page spread.I think this would look the best and from what I have found the stories tend to contain more text and the layout of my double page spread requires lots of text. Also I will have lots of opportunities to make link in a story to the pictures I will use.

Research and Planning -Double page spread featured content

Here are a variety of different double page spreads, each has a different topic relating to an artist and their music.Knowing what options I have will help me to make an informed decision about my double page spread.
The first double page spread I am going to look at takes the form of an interview.I like how a different colour font has been used to signify the questions.I also like how the answers to the questions have been quoted and made bigger, this means that if the audience picked up on what has been written that they are more likely to read the whole article. Using  an interview means that the subjects I want to know most about can be covered.I also think that using an interview style makes the page look easier to read.

This is a magazine that has previously been made by a media student. There is in my mind some things that I would change but I like how the article has been made promoting an event.Using an event/ Gig to base my double page spread on would mean I could include a review and would mean I would have to think differently about the image I choose to put on.
This double page spread incorporates both an interview and a gig review on the side.I like this idea and think that it makes the whole page more interesting and informative. As the gig review is small it is straight to the point so I think it is effective.

This double page spread has been taken from a well known Country magazine called Maverick. This is a story about an artist and I think it looks in depth enough to be informative but not too large to bore the reader.

This is another interview article, again two different colours are used to indicate the questions and the answers.

Research and Planning-My Photos

Here are the images that I took during my photo shoot.I am happy with the images as they are all good quality and I have used both natural lighting and the flash. The weather on the day of the photo shoot was awful and so I didn't have the opportunity to get some pictures of my model in an open field which is unfortunate but I may be able to arrange another photo shoot in the future if I find that I need photos from a slightly different location.I used props such as a western saddle and lasso rope. The costume consisted of a cowboy hat , jeans , chaps , a vest and a variety of different checkered tops. The makeup was minimalist but I think everything looked good together. If I were to do the photo shoot again I would liked to have the pony involved , maybe have my model leading it.

Research and Planning-Preparation for the photo shoot and what happened on the day

My photo-shoot took a fair bit of organization from arranging the props I would need ,to being able to make sure that the location would be free.Here is a rough list of what I had to do in the order I did them.;
1)Choose which of my friends two stables would be best suited to my media work , I also had to consider how often there is no one around. The first location I went to see was a perfect all weather indoor barn with an upstairs hay loft that I thought could prove interesting for some photos, Its a very nice new built building that would have looked nice as a backdrop. However the first stable is a busily run yard and after speaking to the owner he said it would be unlikely that during a weekend there would be no one around to  disturb me but due to where the stable is it meant I wouldn't have time during a week to get there.
The second stable was local to both me and my model and although the layout of the stable meant that during bad weather taking photos would be difficult there was indoor lighting if needed. The second stable would also be available during the day everyday until about half past three and weekends could be arranged with the owner. The choice was made to choose stable number two , Ash Farm because of the convenience of time.

2)Now that I have the location I can arrange props. There was a lot of items on the farm that the owner said she was happy for me to use and even said I could put the horses she had in the background.I decided that her pony would look good in the photo-shoot and because she is fairly small like my model they would look good together.A friend of mine lent me the cowboys roping rope that got used in the photo-shoot.I already own the western saddle and thought it would be great to use it as a prop either on the pony , being carried or in the background.

3) There was a lot of preparation on the day of the photo-shoot as well.Unfortunately the weather proved to be horrendous on the day and it was incredibly cold which did make the photo-shoot more difficult. The photo-shoot was done on Monday 10th Dec .

Here is a schedule of what happened on the day including the preparation before the models arrival.

Research and Planning-Communication with my model

It is essential that me and my model have good communication leading up to taking the photos in order to make sure that everything runs smoothly. Here is a screen munch of my phone showing part of a message between me and my model the day before the shoot.
